I went to Valemount with Maxwell this weekend for my first ever trip to the mountains. I learnt allot and had so much fun I am hooked and want to go back for sure.

Lessons learned:
- Tree magnets do exist, I happened to end up with a one time only use magnet.
- Any skills you have picked up from flat land riding does not help in the mountains... AT ALL !
- Remember to return your rental probe before you leave Valemount, and not when you are almost home, you may end up owning that equipment.
- No matter what anyone says, a 141"x15"x2" is NOT A LONG TRACK !
- The fatter you are the harder time you have digging your @$$ out when your stuck. (No more cookies for me)
- I am glad I ride my "old junk" as I was told, because when you roll the sled down the hill, bars bend, steering posts crack, and sleds do not go home the way they came up when you are a rookie. So new may be a waste!
- Take lots of Advil with you, the next morning you will have a hard time getting out of bed.
- Do not "Try out" you buddies brand new sled, it just makes you sad and dislike what you ride even more.
- Your sled will not start when you muffler is full of snow, no matter how many times you pull that rope
- Your recoil rope should be longer then two and a half feet
- Trail riding now sucks, and trying to get by on the small amount of snow in a field back home is depressing.

But most of all, have tons of fun.... Every body starts some where. And go with someone who knows the area and can teach you how to be safe. Avy training will come next year for sure!!

Thanks Maxwell !!! :d

Thanks :d you were right! Tree magnets find there way in the truck at the boarder, I slid up agunst one. It was not bad at all but I was shocked to see how may good people I met up there as well as how many people just came over to help me get unstuck when they were done laughing at what I had done :p

Oh yeah, its easier to get your sled out if you stop when you "think you might get stuck" rather then stopping when you "are really stuck"

Can definitely relate, had my first trip a couple weeks back, rode 2 ft of fresh Pow in Chappell and my muscles paid for it until thurs the following week. Got lucky though and the "tree magnet" never managed to sneak on board at the boarder. Highly addicting and I can already feel my wallet getting a little.....ok a lot lighter!! Can't wait to go back....I see Blue River in my future! :d

Welcome to the mountains, it is addicting as for the tree magnet it only gets stronger and starts loking for bigger trees, advil and Robaxcet become your friends, and being that Maxwell introduced you to the mountains he is required to dig you out everytime you get stuck

Great post, the digging will get less till you get your next sled and it seems to start over again. Yes get the avy training and invest in the gear., best money spent. When i started in '88 a 136 was a longtrack, we all had 116 and 121's, but I do remember(gotta pic) an older guy on an '88 wildcat with a 156",,WOW that was big back then. How times have changed. still all good fun, oh yeh get a muffpot for grub. Its like sleddin in the mountains, once you tried it your hooked too.

Aj.
