I'm thinking of going quading next weekend west of Rockymountain House by Outwest Camping&Rv Park. I was at Cycle Works today and they told me that you're not allowed to go in the creeks and rivers or streams as you will get fined. Does anybody know anything about this?

Nothing has changed. It has always been this way. They are starting to enforce it more now because there are too many f'n idiots out there.

Cross creeks at narrow point on trail. Go directly across not back and forth. Slow and steady no need to stir up the bottom.

I will have official posters to share soon

ok since our club works very close with SRD and the government ... this is what we got told from the brass....

since this order about the endangered brown trout came out.. or whatever trout... its a FEDERAL order... therefore every province has to enforce a federal order... and cause it s federal and is a endangered order... no offroad vehicle can even set a tire into any stream or river.... thats the law NOW... whether they enforce that or not is up in the air... i do know the government is spending 3 million in our areas here .. rebuilding trails and bridges and many water crossings are being closed off... for now you can still cross a small stream or body of water in the shortest path but if they want they can fine you for even doing that...so its really illegal to even get one tire wet in any stream or body of water that is not a slue or mud hole...

some of the head SRD guys where at our last general meeting showing us trails that are being closed this year cause of the crossings and told us just that what i said there....

remember this is not Alberta doing this... this is a Federal government order for all of Canada.... provinces have to enforce the orders...

This federal order may be the case (I'd definitely like to see more definitive info), but this does not necessarily change the provinces position on the matter. As I see it, it's no different than Marijuana being illegal in any amount federally but provinces like BC choosing to look the other way for the most part.

Most conservation will look the other way as long as you are not running up and down the stream making a mess. Straight across and nothing else. If you are traveling with a large group if things get stirred up after a few people cross stop let things settle and send a few more across.

They are replacing bridges that were destroyed in the floods

well ... i dont know where this order is posted.. but we all sat in front of the government brass and they told us that... take it from there....
maybe try to post a message on the Calgary atv riders page on FB here and ask Christine or Todd ... they mite know where this order is... i am just stating what we were told...

probably the reason the government took those bridges out is cause the guys did not have insurance on them.... our club when we build bridges have to hold insurance to insure these bridges that the club build... in case someone has a mishap on them... thats the law...

That may be the case mark as far as insurance, but the bridge's were over built

And to keep from wrecking the creeks and banks ect

What do they want, atv-utv out of the fish bla bla bla with bridges or retarded insurance on a Friggin bridge where a drunk dumb azz falls off it from his own stupidity and finds a innocent person liable

Westslope cutthroat trout. Like said before a federal ruling. Cross straight line from shore to shore on a trail not just anywhere. SSRP is really bringing changes. Bridges will be a big thing in the future. Save the water and the fish and habitat.

If I put a sign on my property " trespass at your own risk", i am no longer responsible if someone gets hurt on my property,.... what about a bridge? "Use bridge at own risk" ?

That's the problem is the dumb ass thats drunk and falls or gets hurt on the bridge and sue's for his own stupidity. In BC the clubs can try and get the trails registered through the recreation division of the gov and get funding to build a bridge for atv/sxs. Then usually recreation will insure the trail. Then the maintenance and safety of the trail is the clubs responsibility to maintain. If people just go out and build bridges on their own they do not realize that now they have taken on all responsibility and legality's of that bridge if someone gets hurt.

shouldn't anything to do with back country access be "at your own risk"...... is it not already implied?
