Expensive Summer and Lessons Learned

Just got my '11 RZR and '03 Sportsman 500 back from the shop.
My two nephews and my son decided to ride hard. The result: bending shifting forks (stuck in reverse) on the 500 and blowing the final drive assembly and bending a rear axle on the RZR.
A lesson learned for me was to ensure that when people take your equipment, even family, that if the machine suffers abuse, that they will be responsible for paying for the damages.
The other lesson was to ensure anyone that rides my equipment, knows how to shift and engage the 4WD when stuck.

Tip of the hat to Elk Island Sales for their great work and for helping out a customer on the costs to repair. I took them down coffee and doughnuts when I picked up the machines.
What PO's me the most is that cut into my new sled fund for this winter. :i_need_snow:

man..... with the costs involved these days with these machines... I don't lend my machine out even if it was a matter of life and death... I would say die! lol
I would still talk to the parents and see if they will at least pay something....family or not.....
that cost you plenty... probably in the thousands some where...
sorry to hear....

I know where you're coming from. I have a spare machine for friends and family and have had the shift fork bent on the spare, had it fully swamped, and even had it written off. I still let people ride my spare (on the rare occasion I actually have both of my machines running at the same time) but I make sure they understand what I will and won't pay for.

I'm with KWIK on this one. You want to ride and wreck chit, get a job and buy your own. My kids don't even touch my chit. They have jobs and their own bikes and quads to wreck and pay for. My boy was picking bottles at the age of 8 to pay for his own broken clutch levers...hahah. I'm a cruel bastage.

I don't know why when people borrow they drive the **** out of stuff? If I use someone else's stuff I drive it as easy as I can, that's if I need it. I usually don't borrow stuff. And I will only lend stuff out to a small percent of people!

I will take $1000 up front from each nutsack if... I ever let them ride again. Its definitely time for them to buy their own toys.

There's never an upside for the person who does the lending. People who borrow things have no appreciation for the value of the item because it cost them nothing.
I just tell people who ask to borrow stuff where the nearest rental store is.
