Elk Valley Snow Shepherds 2017-2018 AST1 Course Dates

[Elk Valley Snow Shepherds]

The Avalanche Skills Training Level 1 course is your 'Learner's Permit' for backcountry sled travel in avalanche terrain. This course is comprised of a minimum 7 hours of classroom education followed by one full day of instruction in the field. Participants can expect to learn how to recognize avalanche terrain, core concepts of avalanche formation and release, the basics of trip planing, how to use tools such as the Avaluator and avalanche bulletins to mitigate your avalanche risk, how to travel safely in avalanche terrain, and the fundamentals of companion rescue. Cost $350. Participants will receive a Snowmobile AST1 certificate from Avalanche Canada upon successful completion of both components of the course.
