do not use a isolator.... use a continues duty solenoid (like a starter solenoid you would see on a old ford) wire it up so when you turn the key on, it connects the two batteries (to charge) and when you turn off the key it seperates the two batteries. (wire pos to pos, with solenoid between...and neg to neg)......hook all your accessories to the aux battery and when it dies (with the engine off) you can always start your engine from the truck battery......I also run another push button switch so if the start battery dies, you just hit the switch and it allows power from the aux battery to power the solenoid (making it go click lol or close the circut) so you can jump your own truck off the aux battery.

any questions just PM me!

sorry for any spelling mistakes ......only have a grade 6 education! lol

That sounds like a good way to do it. I've never thought about it but that would work good. What don't you like about an isolator? I've never used one so, just wondering about the down sides to them.

when a isolator stops work it usally pulls power back from the main battery because a diode is gone.....you really never know when it stops working , and it will stop working when your 100 miles from no where....the selonid will click and makes a mechanical connection.....worst case, it wont charge your aux battery and your acc wont work......but you can still start your engine!

I have done 100's of these set ups on everything from trucks to boats! love the way they work......and the jump feature is great to!

For some reason I cant seem to PM you:confused:, Could you draw me up a schematic and where to get the exact parts? I like the way this sounds as it going on a new truck and dont want to mess with anything. I just want a second battery to run the accessories and have the boost function like you mentioned. I was looking at the Painless Wiring dual battery systems and I really dont need a switch in the cab and dont want to tie wires onto the starter solenoid. I just want a set and forget system. PM me the info please and thanks:beer:

that and a couple solenoids are less than 50 bucks compared to a couple hun for a good isolator.
