Trying to find a place to rent or borrow a dial torque wrench with a scale roughly 20 - 50 in/Lb.

Tried calling several places with no success. Tool is more expensive than the job I need it for.

Thanks.

I gots one for ya but a little far from ya, cost to ship it would be more than the tool is worth :D ....in/lb is just ft/lbs divided by 12 so 12 ft/lbs is 144 in/lbs. That probably doesn't help ya because most ft/lb torque wrenches do not go below 25 ft/lbs but 50 in/lbs is not very much, like less than 4 ft/lbs, damn near finger tight.

Need to torque bearing preloads so need to see torque while rotating.

Ideally need it for Friday and would like to have for Saturday...you know...just in case something screws up.

I would buy a used one for the right price.

I hate to say it but Canadian Tire has a tool loan out program, or at least they used to, might be worth calling them to see?

Guy at part source told me the dial torques were too expensive to loan out, that too mnay guys were getting drunk and doing silly things with them.

I found that a very interesting comment.

But what do you do with the rest of the fish, seem like a complete waste of fish for just one scale.:d

you can make one with a fish scale
You are correct any kind of scale like a fish scale will work along with some string. just wrap the rope around the pinion and pull with the scale and see what it reads. Note quite as accurate as a dial torque wrench but when your in a pickle it works. There is some math involved but if you google it i sure you can find it.

A torque wrench is a precision measuring device. As such, they are meant to be handled/treated with care. If you are borrowing someones wrench, you best be sure they are someone that treats their torque wrenches with care and you do the same. They are not meant to be dropped or banged around etc. I wouldn't trust a rented one as far as I could throw it.:d

I had to do a double take last fall while at a Kal Tire in PG. Buddy grabs the torque wrench out of the steel tableside torque wrench holder, (pipe welded vertically on the edge of the table) torques the customers wheel nuts, walks over to the table and drops the wrench into the pipe from a height of about 2 feet.:nono:

I'm thinking that must be why this goon is changing tires for a living.

No disrespect intended to all you smart people out there that change tires for a living!

I wouldn't use an actual fish scale, they're not really very accurate. They do make scales just for this purpose though.

I big thanks to Slomo for taking the time to answer questions and offer advice. Some great pointers from a pro! Made the job a lot easier!! No need for the tool after all.

So far so good. No strange noises, no clunks and no more one wheel peel.
