I was trying this method last night and I tried it 4 times and no success, I had so much teflon tape on there on the last 2 tries that you could barely see the threads. Had to give up and go to the old method. I s there a trick to this that I'm missing? I could feel it tightening up going into the first set of threads, but then the water would just seep out and then it would be through to the second set of threads. Just about used a whole role of teflon tape trying this :)
Advice is appreciated, Thanks.

Hmmmmm, don't know what to tell you..... Works on both my 1000rt and 800rev ....... Never a problem...... Kinda scares ya, when it does pop, though. I used the impact gun on the 800 and by ratchet on the 1000, and both worked equally well.

Make sure you you apply the tape in the proper direction. Hold the bolt in your left hand and wrap the threads turning the tape away from you. If you wrap in the wrong direction it will just unravel and water will seep past. I usually use about 4 to 5 wraps. It works every time. I actually just did this on the Etec for the first time last night.

Yeah, I got it off with the puller. I filled it right to the top with water, water was pushing out as the bolt ( not the puller) went in. I put enough tape on there that you could barely see the threads. The tape was going inthe right direction. I've just been thinking, maybe I didn't have enough tension on the tape, I wrapped it on tight enough that it formed into the threads, and only pulled it really tight on the last wrap or two. Hmmm...

I just re-read it, it looks like I was using the puller, but I was actually using the clutch bolt.
Bad sentence structure :)
I'll try it again after the weekend, see if I have any better luck, Thanks

you must be wrapping the teflon tape on the wrong way, make sure it is on the first threads.

I just tried it again this morning and it worked, and I believe the problem was, that I wasn't wrapping the teflon tape tight enough on the threads right from the start, I was only going tight for the last couple of wraps and the water was squeezing through because of that. Thanks for all the help guys! :)

Ha! No it was less of a pop than using the clutch puller. Everytime it pops with the puller I always have a quick panic attack and see if I broke my clutch puller. I think I'll keep using this method...I usually pull my clutch apart every third or fourth hard ride to clean things up, I'll keep practising using this method, seems pretty good though. :)

I always use the puller and find if the motor is really cold it does not budge. Pouring boiling water over between the center of the sheaves usually makes it let go.:d
