just wondering when the best time to buy a live tree is? were able to have a 10' tall tree this year and last year we bought our tree probably around first week of dec, it was the first shippment of trees at home depo. paid good money for the tree. but it only took water for the first week or so then didnt drink much water after that. i dont mind spending 50-80 on a tree but i want it to last and not drop needles so soon.

the wife just brought up all the decorations to put around the house....... i can see the list coming very soon and being very long haha

It don't really matter if your buying from a box store, most all the trees are cut and wrapped a month ago anyway, usually buy one from kinsman or some other lot that's half way to a charity if your spending big bucks, at least you can see the tree un wrapped and feel the limbs to see how brittle/dry they are.... One other thing is to cut about three to four inches off the but before you put it in the stand.
I usually buy something from a lot and keep it outside till the week before xmass, never had a problem with a dry tree by new year, also if you do put it up early it's a good idea to add a little natural sugar to some warm water stir it up and make that the first and second water of the tree seems it makes it last longer fresher as the trees will only take three to four good waterings after they thaw out.

Hope that helps ya out a bit.
And merry Christmas.

since your from Vernon you should go to one of the tree farms around the area. There is a nice one just above Spall golf course and with that kind of money you are willing to spend you will get a nice one. There is also another farm towards Lumby. Good luck

Live trees come in a pot. Trees that are cut off their roots are dead and their needles fall off. Just sayin!

Our Home Depot tree is pretty kick azz this year...

We always put ours up the first weekend in Dec... Cut off a couple inches on the trunk for a fresh cut, add sugar to the water, sucks up about 2 litres of water the first 24hr, then weens off, usually only drinks for the first week or so and is good and done by new years...

$45 for the tree and they give you a $25 off cupon for January..

Down east we always cut our own, made for a cool day & a fresh tree, I havent looked around here for local places...I suppose I could go chop one from HHA...

Have lots of trees around my property and take the young one out and haul it home on the cutter, no fresher than that and find any more than 15 days is pushing it. Keep away from any heat registers and limit light time seems to help out some. Maybe this year stick a humidifier in the room some and see if it helps slow up the fire trap
