Anyone running or know of anyone running an 800r or 860r with ported cases? Was there noticable gains? Any pros and cons? Thought if it was worth it it would be a nice addition to the 860 since its due for a new bottom end right away. I know of lots of 670 with extensive case work but havent heard any of the R engines with bottom end work..

shhhh... dont let the secret out, this is the key to pulliun the 180hp with twins.

No for real though i ported mine, yes there is a diffrence. Biggest thing to watch out for is there is a steam hole on the case. Do not grind out to much or you will punchture the steam hole. Biggest diffrence we seen in the bottom end pick up.

did mine back in 09, from what i recall it was a 6hp gain, with a 880

if your not modding the motor the gains would be minimal

Did you do your own porting or did Linderman grind them out for you when you did the 860? Do you run bored carbs with the twins?

I went to Trackside after work today and talked to Brad. He dosent know of anyone running ported cases on the R engine. He didnt even have any thoughts on it really.

well maybe he was lieing to me, he was porting a case a couple years ago when i was in there, and I asked him what engine that was and im sure he said 800r, because it needs more volume, I guess it could have been a HO motor but im pretty sure he said it was a R motor, I could be mistaken, Brad and I have never really seen eye to eye.

More volume=more air and fuel= more horse power. Minimal gains on a stocker, but with a big bore it completes the package. BUT it takes the right set of hands to accomplish this. Linderman is your man.

I don't think Brad's ported anything that didn't have a rotary valve. He certainly seemed pretty good at that but they don't do much more than bolt on big bores now a days.

Talked to Ralph at Split Second last year about this and he said that it did show results on the first one that he did . (3 to 4 hp) After the first one he did a couple others and and it didn't show any gains.
He didn't think it was worth it at that time if runninng single pipe in the mountains.
These were on larger cc 800's.
I guess if you had the cases split and sitting on bench it maybe something to try.
