I heard that there was going to be a cell phone app for the Avalanche Center that would give you snow conditions. Just wondering if anyone has heard or has such a thing

Also heard they are coming up with more zones for BC/AB this year for more accurate reports.

Had the CAC app for a while on my iPhone. Type in avalanche.ca or MEC in the search bar on the app tab.

Doesn't appear to be available for Android yet? I know I looked when I first got my android and I just searched again now.

The change does make it easier to see on Smart Phones though, just have the link saved as your favorites. Going to Glacier Park listed in the partner bulletins shows more what it will look like, rather than the text. I have liked Glacier's bulletins for awhile.

I was checking it out and all I can find is a web page made for mobile devices not an app. Looks good but not an actual app.
It looked exactly like the image in the article so I wondered if someone used the term app incorrectly.

I never saw anything about a new app, there is a new bulletin format that makes it easier to view on phones. Oler asked if there was an app? Thats the only one who mentioned app besides shitfly saying he has an app.

There might be something for iphone or blackberry, but not andriod. Nothing in Andriod market. So there isn't an "app" available for everyone. The chane to theCAC is to make the bulletins easier to view on smart phones, not introducing an "app"

I already have this app on my iPhone... But it is still the old style so will there be an update for the app?

This is what I was referring to, not up to speed on other 'app' platforms, all I know is what I have on my iPhone, and some websites have 'mobile friendly' versions..should be available for everyone on any media, IMO

Hi Folks,

Ian here from the CAC. The announcements last week were for a total redesign of our forecasting products and new software for their production. We're looking into updating the CAC/MEC iPhone App as well as porting it to Android but all of this stuff takes time and our focus is on the new bulletin software right now. Once we get that deployed and running smoothly then we'll be addressing the iPhone and Android options.

Please send us your feedback on what you'd like to see in the iPhone/Android apps for features - we've been talking a fair bit about developing these to allow for conditions reporting (i.e you can take a photo of an avalanche, it gets geo-tagged by your phone, you can enter in some weather data, maybe some other stuff like any snowpack data and it submits it into the CAC automatically. Just ideas, but keen to hear your thoughts and feedback.

hope this clarifies, give us a call in Revy if you have any other questions (250-837-2141).

all the best, its snowing like crazy up high in the Selkirks and Monashees...
