well got bored and figured after work i would start working on something...and the idea popped up.

needs some tweaking platform need about 3/4" more clearence for the ramp, need something heavier than structural steel stud for the ramp ramp traction, some teflon runners for the ramps.....other than that......it was free, and works!!!!

I paid a lot of money for an Full Lotus Quicky loader that looks no better and probably doesn't work any better. With a little tweaking you could make and sell these I'm thinking.

Built one of them myself about 10 years ago for my bud. All out of 2x4 spruce and fir plywood. Sold his ford and got a dodge so it don't fit in the truck anymore. Used it year round for everything.

I built one last year very similar, except I hinged the part in the box so I can close my tailgate

Looking good dude!

A suggestion, if I may......It appears like the skis can slide off the sides on the "deck". I can't see how the deck sits in relation to the wheel wells but maybe a small piece of 1x4 along the side, sitting about an inch above the deck would help. But then again, maybe the wheel wells will prevent the problem.

Like I said, just a suggestion.....

Hey Chris, I have a bunch of puckboard already cut into 8" strips. You can have it. If you're still in Sylvan, I'll even drop it off for you on my way to Red Deer.

Ski's can't really slide off the deck wheel wells do keep them pretty strait. the rams though have 1" sides to keep me on the strait and narrow.

Thought about hinging to make closing the box possible but wanted 7' ramps and only have a 6'6" box and hinging the ramps requires more reinforcement and more weight so making the deck fit in with closed tailgate was pointless

Just leave the gate at home. no need to get it all scuffed up when traveling.

i'm not back in sylvan untill monday but i would deff. take some, i was going to buy some teflon, how does puck board hold up when cold??.....the only money i am going to spend is to buy some spray in box liner and spray the whole thing black, also its all just screwed and lagged together right now,....the main structure of the ramp will get some welding

Puckboard is okay when it's cold...it's more flexible than it is brittle. If you're going to screw it down, just make sure the holes are twice as big as the screws, and don't tighten them right down. It will expand and contract, and end up wrinkling if it's too tight. If you need some welding done, just stop by my shop in Rimbey on your way to Sylvan.

Okay thanks for clarifying.

BTW, the puck board will work great. I used it for years on my tri-fold and it saves the wood from the carbides. Don't step on it as it is slippery and I guess that is why it does the job.

I find that you get lots of rock chips on the tail gate with it down. I was going to put some magnetic signs on there to protect the paint. Looks good, I would imagine someone out there is charging 6 or 7 hundred bucks for those.
