I traded my king quad for a used rhino with back bench and extended roll cage, so the whole family can enjoy the gentle trails around humming bird and ram falls this summer (2 toddlers, wife and I). I've looked for pics or videos of anyone using the diamondback atv deck with extension, to see if this works with a regular tow package or not. I would like the extra lockable storage space given by this cover. Anyone else tried this?

won't work i have a 800 razor and it just fits in the 8 foot box on my f250, if you did get it to fit on a deck on a 150 you would not be able to hitch up the trailer and when you turned it would hit the front of the trailer.a rhino with all those options your f150 would be over the payload and putting a trailer behind would be very dangerous. it just won't work

Looks like your making two trips or buying a real truck to haul that much of a load!

You're looking for a heap of grief with that set up. Like Papajake stated, the length of a Rhino on a shortbox is going to eliminate any chance of strapping on a holiday trailer. I have a heavy duty Diamond Back on my Dodge 1/2 ton....it fastens to the top of the box rails with 4 chicken sh!t clamps. No chance in hell I would put a SXS on it, let alone throw a 7500lb trailer behind. Here's a few pics of a rhino in a Dodge with an 82" deck and extension....totals 104"...see if you can squeeze a square nose trailer on behind. I'm thinking the DOT's would fawk up your weekend in a terrible way.

Get a hitch extension for your trailer.
Dad uses a 4ft extension to tow his boat behind his truck camper.

But the hitch needs to be rated for that. Or else you're running the risk of overloading your hitch and breaking something. (again dad learned the hard way there too). Hitch extensions are a Mechanical disadvantage.

But an option you could look into.

Not too sure of overall lengths, if keeping a short box. Can the UTV fit inside the box, end gate down? Then depending on weight of trail. A 2.5ft hitch extension?

very bad advice! a hitch extension to tow a 26' trailer behind an F150 loaded with a Rhino?

The only simple solution is to trade your F150 in on a larger truck with an 8 foot box minimum.

You did say your going to take your wife and 2 toddlers along with you, why put them into a death trap on the highway?

Agreed. I wouldn't use a hitch extension to anything over 2000lbs. The extra length with the tongue weight puts alot of stress on the hitch. Not safe!!!

What about putting a riser on the sled deck instead of an extension?

my buddy built a riser for the front wheels of his rhino to drive up on in the front of the box of his shortbox Dodge, when loaded the front wheels of the rhino were about at the top of the cab. made it so he could pull his pull type trailer behind, can't remember if he got the tailgate closed or if he strapped it up against the back tires.

in Alberta no DOT or cop is going to hassle you for overweight on your pickup and camper, all they look for is that your tires are rated for the weight you're carrying.

safest setup for a half ton? will your insurance balk at paying in case of accident? perhaps not....but you're not going to be the first guy to overload a half ton in AB. take it for what it's worth...

They make special hitches for extensions. They are not cheap. Maybe too much for a 1/2. They work great on the 1tons. Unreal amount of weight they can hold too. More then you'd think.

Two things. One-look at the tongue weight. You aren't gonna pull much of a camper or trailer with any of those extensions without being at the max or over. Two-the problem isn't the extension, it's the hitch and how it mounts to the frame. If you don't twist it good chance you will break the bolts or twist the frame. Seen it done. Twice.
Also anything that heavy higher than the box rails is gonna be super sketchy on a half ton nevermind trying to load it up there!!
Just buy a proper truck or make two trips and take some of the danger out of the picture.
