Thought I would post here as the avy awareness forum does not get as much traffic.

Has anyone upgraded to a BCA Tracker 3 yet? I still use my originals as they are just so damn easy to use - but I think it may be time for an upgrade given the improvements in multiple burial technology.

Anyone have any (hopefully practice) time on the 3, and can compare to ease of operation to the originals?

many thanks

It's not the years, it the mileage........

I use both, the tracker 3 is an awesome beacon, however people seem to be getting all pumped on multi burial capabilities...the truth is unless you are a trained professional mountain guide, if more than one person gets buried, people die. Stats are, with non-professional guides, if three get buried 2 die, if 4 three die, being a great sledder has nothing to do with avy safety...if you want to eliminate multi burials, then only ski or ride one person on a hill....the tracker 2 is one of the best as it is easy to use, especially when the crap hits the fan, so is the Tracker 3, but no need to upgrade if your tracker 2 is in good working order....

I agree with your thoughts above Dave but I will say that you do not NEED to upgrade to the T3 although it is a good upgrade if you are in the market (especially from the Tracker 1 as mentioned above)

The T2 is the fastest transceiver out there but the SP mode can be difficult for those who do not frequently practice. After spending a good deal of time with the T3 this season already, I really like the signal suppression as well as the big picture mode. There are some very cool features included with the T3 that do not overcomplicate the unit too much and are there for the more advanced user.

BCA is such a great group. I cannot say how positive the results have been from using their products over the years. From the Linq radio system, to the new Float 25 Turbo and the Dozer shovel, this gear is sick. Plus the people that represent the product are second to none.

Not a professional but I know for a fact my group of 6 is organized and calm enough to handle 2 ppl buried. Unless they are 10 ft deep. New beacon tech will help in that big time. when u have to start doing circles around the first person with the old beacons to find the next guy your burning precious time. Of course your only going to find one guy alive.

Mm of denying that your group is dialled but most people think this way until it is a real emergency! I have seen fire fighters buckle and they run I to burning buildings. When it is your best friend, wife or son or daughter , it changes things! More than one person burried is easily avoided too.

with all this talk about the which is the best beacon you are all forgetting the most important thing. The best way to survive an avalanche burial is to avoid it all together.

Been interested in checking out the 3 but haven't found anyone that has been able to keep them in stock yet. The T2 is super easy to use but the SP mode takes some practice. I am kind of leaning to the Pieps Sport as my next transceiver.
