Friday night my radio turned out to be a fantastic investment. The events North of Sylvan Lake that have been in the news over the past few days were happening 300 yards from our place. Since I've added extra channels to the radios that Ray sent me, we are able to pick up some communications that tipped us off on how serious the situation was, and it was the only way we knew to be on the defense.
It was obvious that it was more than just an accident with all the police running around still after midnight, but we had no other way of really knowing what was happening without our radios.
Great investment and useful for a lot more than just venturing into the back country. I usually have one with me in my truck whenever we travel, and always have them when we are hiking, dirt biking and sledding.
