It's amazing how advanced some of these scum bags are getting.

Maybe we need to return to the days of cash! Go to the "bank teller" withdraw the cash we require and live on that until we go back to the bank again. Develop a little more patience in life; both with spending and with buying....

If all this technology is costing the banks horrendous amounts of money (maybe insurance bails them out?), we might see the return of the low paid teller again!

Just some thoughts.....

What I resent is the 1.50 or 2.00 charge to use the back machine. If you go inside and use the services of a paid bank employee, it costs nothing. Makes no sense.....

I'd have to agree - go to the teller for the cash and use it "responsibly" until you can get there again. I've never used one of those ATM machines and don't plan to anytime soon either. Just not worth it IMO with all the scams that pop up every now and then - and the service charges.

I used to live in england its been going on there for the last 4 years. So its not new to me my wife had some money takern out her bank like this. she went to withdraw some money but the machine took her card . the lady behind said she would try her card and it worked. As it was after closing time she went to get her card the next day but the bank boss said the card was not in the machine. Then she found out that her limmit had beed takern out that day and about 50+miles away at 12oclock her limmit was takern out again before she got to the bank. They saw it on ctv the lady behind put her bank number in her cell phone and got her card. Also not far away from my house a gas station employee was geting credit card numbers when you go in and pay. It must just be getting to canada now mostly in england it was eastern europe people.

You gotta be chitting us........ you've NEVER used an ATM?????? what about debit card transactions???????

There are scams out there yes, and a person must be careful...even being careful is no guarentee that you are not going to become a victim but that said on a thursday afternoon when I leave work and pump gas into the car/truck ($60-$100) stop at costco ($600) walmart ($200) Safeway ($200) then beach corner for Beer ($30-$150 depending) I would need to be carting around somewhere around $1200 cash on me..... me walking around with $1200 cash is not a good idea.....

Just sayin...

Bogger, you lead a great life or have a very large family!!! The gas I understand; Costco? Walmart? Safeway? all for groceries or are there some boy's toys in there? The beach corner I understand!

What's wrong with carting around 12 $100 bills (not any bigger wad than 12 $20's and that didn't used to be a big deal)? Just the cost of doing business....just saying

4 kids with big appetites who love to make a mess.... 2 dogs with big appetites who love to make a mess and unfortunately best price means shopping around... I don't go out of my way, just stop at each as I pass...

I find debit to the most convinient & effective, this way I don't have to carry a wad of cash...It makes me accountable for my purchases and records what is being spent where...(cash can dissapear quickly @ showgirls & brewhouse)

My bank account is set up so I get unlimited Interac & ATM withdrawls (doesn't cover the 3rd party charges) and with the fraud protection on our account I rarely worry about scams....

I keep some cash always, and only do debit for larger things, so I don't use it that often thus reducing the chance of a problem. And I pretty much only use the banks atm's. I really try to avoid atms in stores or bars, etc. They seem like they would be more likely to have issues.

Really annoying though. Fugging thieves

Nope - never! No debit card for me. It's either cash, cheque or credit card. Never spend more on the cc than I know I'll be able to pay at the end of the month. I just like the cc idea better being that the money doesn't come directly out of my account. And whatever I buy throughout the month is basically like getting an intrest free loan on the money since I always pay it off before it's due and I get up to around 30 days before I have to pay for it. Plus most credit cards you can collect points for stuff similar to air miles. It's like they're paying people to use their money with no interest for a month (as long as you pay it off). (I realize cc companies probably don't get billed for most of the stuff until month-end and so it probably isn't actually costing them until I pay my bill anyway, but every little bit of extra interest in my pocket is better than the bank's IMO).

It can happen ANYWHERE!

My card got skimmed at an Esso on Whyte ave. I was just buying mix, they skimmed my card.... Apparently I didn't look like a broke college student?
Luckily, ATB noticed that I was using my bankcard in Cold Lake on the same day they tried (and would have succeeded) to withdraw 500 bucks in Quebec.

We gassed up in hinton(last year or so) and stopped at the shell, my lil ol lady went in and paid... The next day she went to an atm in edmonton and it kept her card... Apparently they were collecting bank #'s and stuff... I personally think it's the banks problem, its their system we use... I agree though to stay with the big bank atm's.. Hopefully a little less chance of getting screwed..

Me too. Never had a bank card and never will. If I need cash I go inside the bank and talk to a "real" person. Otherwise I spend the credit card company's money for a month. :d
