Psi is down to 90 a side. Cylinders look ok but have not been measured yet. No squeak, just low compression. I talked to a couple places and have heard anywhere from 3 to 10 hours to do the job. That's a huge variation changing labour costs from under three hundred to a cool grand. I know pistons are expensive from doo, but most guys tell they are better than wisco, etc. Thoughts?

Anyone running a garage at home that has done a few top ends on an xp? I would really like to save a few bucks as things are tight this year and I still have to buy the wife a used sled (there goes the overtime). I am hoping to ride mid December and I am too busy to even look at it. Also, the last motor I rebuilt was my '92 Phazer and there will be a long learning delay on this, let alone finding the current tools (my old hone won't do crap with nikisil).

I've recently done my 08 xp and it takes awhile. 4 hours is fairly reasonable i think. It's tight in there. Oh i'm sure there's guy's who can do em in 2 hrs, maybe even 1hr (I call bullch!t!) but it took me at least 4 by the time i cleaned powervalves and carbs properly. Plus extra to clean and rebuild clutches. You don't need any special tools except the clutch puller. A manual is a must for torque specs and such. I'm sure you could speak to a good shop and have your jugs honed, i did. I used Rktek heads and pistons. I noticed there was a dude selling a piston kit on here for $300 with gaskets i think...

I pulled it from the shop and re-did the compression test. It was 138 psi, so I wil let er buck for another season. The shop that did the test made a mistake, had a bad gauge, or needed work real bad. Not sure which, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt and told them to check their gauge.

Thanks for all the pms and messages offering to help. I get to save the money for now.
