just trying to figure out the best way to get from peace river to valemount. there is a highway that comes out of hinton but there are other highways that leave from peace river. the shortest route is not always the best so let me know the most efficient way if you know and how long it takes you!

Through Grande Cache.

it is barely closer to go through Grande Cache vs Whitecourt and over to Edson via the Peers highway. I do not go through GC if I don't have to simply because there is a lot of narrow highway, and no services for many miles once you go through GC. also the chance of animal strikes is much greater on highway 40, especially at night. you can make a lot better time on the twinned highway anyways.

I go to Valemount a lot, only reason to go through GC is if I'm picking up a buddy from GP. takes just under 8 hrs to Valemount from here through Whitecourt.

with the kenworth it's a no brainer, way quicker to go through Whitecourt because of the hills on hwy 40.

Cool thanks. So I'm just driving a pickup would you still reccomend that way
yeah, like I said....a lot better highway through Whitecourt. there is only 70 some kms of highway that isn't twinned going that way using hwy 32. it is 10 miles farther to go through Whitecourt vs Grande Cache. you can easily make up that time on the twinned highway. highway 40 route is kinda scenic tho, if you're travelling in the daytime and your truck is in decent shape it may be worth it just for the scenery.

GP to Mcbride was 5 hours pulling a 16 foot trailer with my ford on highway 40, add another 2 hours from the Peace to Valemount.. twisting road but very nice.

We always go down through Whitecourt. The trip always seems to go faster, better road, less wildlife, less time stuck behind a big truck with no where to pass for miles.
