I still think the answer on the whole closure area/infraction problem is a bounty hunter program put in place.Pay peeps to rat out rats that ride in closure area's. Everyone carries a camera phone nowadays. That or more volunteer patrollers watching these area's and reporting infractions. I don't think it is financially feasible for cops to do this but they would be more than happy to meet the closure runners at the parking lot.Just my thought?

I agree with this, only issue is you need a very good picture of this person, and unless they are fairly close to you, you can never get a good enough picture with a mobile phone to nail the correct guy. Too many guys out there with similar sleds and black outfits.

The government already does say where we can ride and when.
But they will never say today you can't ride here because avy risk is high. They don't have the resources or manpower to enforce it. And why would they want to? Do you guys think none of them go in the back country on their own time to enjoy it like the rest of us?

They don't have the resources or manpower to enforce much of the infractions that happen in the back country. There will be 2 guys on sleds checking for insurance and registration on the trails. They may nab the odd impaired rider this way, but for the most part it will just be stopping law abiding citizens to check papers. They will be able to do more at the staging area, even if they are just there for a couple hours in the afternoon. Of course some of them enjoy time in the back country, but I don't want my tax dollars going to them enjoying that time during their shift. They should be nabbing the guys who will be driving impaired or stealing sleds.

Registration of snowmobiles has been required in BC since the early 70's. 10 bucks and you only pay it once. Insurance is not a requirement yet though.

And you have to pay the tax on the purchase price of the sled don't you?

The RCMP up on the hill nailing people? It is what it is. And Closesures, dont like those, but they are what they are too.. Currently have lots of places to ride stil,l so i can live with them.


A little story I have about the RCMP on the hill tho:

17years ago there was a Big white out in Golden and the Avalanche risk was Extreme. There was RCMP in the parking lot and on sleds on the mountain at Gorman asking people not to ride due to the high risks that day.

Well nobody cared and there was tons of people going up any way(attitudes were a little different then they are now) including My dad and our group.. I was only 15. It was real ery feeling up there that day. You couldnt see the tops of the mountain , it was snowing very hard,but you could hear slides coming down every once in a while.

So were f'in around riding and I find myself stuck in a creek at the bottom of a HUGE avalanche shoot in a white out. To make matters worse at 15 I was the best rider in our group and nobody could get any closer than a quarter mile from me.

So my dad and One of the RCMP that was up there on a sled walked a quarter mile through 4foot deep powder,,in a white out, threw extreme avalanche terain, on a day with extreme risk of avalanches. They got me out and I rode to saftey, while they had to walk a quarter mile through the deep snow back to there sleds.. My dad was in bad shape and I thought he was going to have a heart attack up there but he was ok. The RCMP officer went way above and beyond the call of duty to come save me and Im very thankful for that and will never forget it.

Well we decide after that we should get the F#ck off the hill and on the way out we noticed that an area we had been playing in earlier that day had been completely anilated by a class 4 Avalanche... We are lucky to be alive.

As far as RCMP on the hill go,, well this guy quite possably saved my live(and risked his life doing so) so I dont mind seeing them up there.

exactly cops dont make the laws the retards in ottawa do and you can guarentee they have never taken there land rover off the pavement ... cops start handing out tickets around stagging areas some guy in an office notices and decided that there need to be more regulations in place to justify is job that he deserves is inflated salary ... so it may not be the cops that are actually on the hill thats going to start taking away our freedoms but you can bet some tree hugger in ottawa would sure love to

Just save the Drinking for end of day at your house or hotel, if you need alcohol on the hill that usually means 2 things
You can't ride in the first place
And you have no confidence in yourself

I abide by the laws and work my ass off for what I have. Do I want police presence? F*ck NO! When I ride, I ride. We leave early enough that we are on the trails before 90% of the a$$hats out there, so it really doesn't bother me much if 90% of the people get drunk while they ride. They never get anywhere close to me.

Another thing is the huge waste of resources. We all know how expensive sledding is, as well as time consuming. I know myself that I would rather have those resources put towards finding "the missing kid of the week" rather than going out and "checking" a mainly law abiding specific targeted group. I mean really, how many of us go sledding so we can pop someones a$$? Most of the people already are law abiding people, and honestly if someone didn't bother to register their sleds this year (yes mine are), does it really impact us nearly as much as the drain created for the general public sustaining health care for dozens of meth addicts who were sold the meth from one single dealer? Seriously people we are being targeted because we have something to lose so we will pay their fines rather than risk losing more trying to fight it.They know that the working population will fall over and keep their pockets full.

Those of you who don't care will be the first ones whining down the road when you can't ride your favorite areas "for your own protection".

What the hell do the police have to do with the BIS not being around anymore? There was a police presence every year I attended that event.

It was an unsanctioned, loosey goosey event that had an ever-growing negative support. The 2 deaths deaths that happened on the mountain basically ended the wind in those sails, even though they were not related to the event.

Look at Yamafest. It's still happening.

The event was over at Bullpen. They pulled the pin then when they found the conditions were too dangerous. Many went back to the parking lot, including filming crews only to hear of the slide later. The people who were at turbo were not part of the BIS. This came from many reliable sources.

invite a few hundred people to sit in an avy drainage and watch sleds go up and down ... how is it not related ???
