Does any one know what a 2004 700 polaris twin should have for compression? Or at what point will it start acting up?

When you hammer the throttle open from a slow speed it gargles and sputters. and seems to run lean when runnin wide open. Have been playing with the carbs don't think they are the problem. I just checked them and both cylinders are at 100 psi

I know this is low and I will be doing a rebuild. Still curious about what kind of symtoms an engine with low compression would give you.

hard to start, low on power

if it runs lean it's because of the jetting, not compession

I would put one size bigger jets.If Keihin..... I think 190's. Take your air screw and turn out 1/4 turn and try that.

simple things first

SPARKPLUGS...just cause there new, doesnt mean there good.

then rering it, lower the compression ,higher it can rev, and things go Boom then.
your probably going to need pistons and rings, But maybe not.

Can't seem to get it running right so ya still have a few other test to try. gonna check and see if it pulling in air from somewhere because I have already jetted way rich from what is recomended in the service manual and it is still running lean. I am still thinking that jetting is not the problem because it has been running the same jetting for six years and only this year it has been giving me problems.

The first thin I did was clean the carbs but maybe have to go through them again. Did the Ether test and found nothing. I don't think it is a verry reliable test thouh, I sprayed some ether right into the air box and nothing happened....Weird!! Will have to keep playing with it untill I figure it out I guess.
