2015 cat vs 2016 cat vs 2017 cat

Thinking of going to a m8000 162. There are some good deals on 2015's, but I heard the 2016's have a lot of good upgrades? Or should a guy wait for 2017, and hope they build the new c-tech 800?

i just did a 2015 M8000LTD 162 that was left over and upgraded the front end to the 2016 spec. Ended up saving some $$$ over a 16 and really only a 3" track, mild rear suspension modification and bold new graphics being the difference between it and a 2016. I never buy anything in the first year of production so even if 2017 was a big change i would be sticking with what i have.

Ya , I heard the team clutches are pretty good. Were they having belts issues in 2015?

By the time you add all the extras that a 16 has to a 13'-15' your just better off buying a 16 in my opinion. I was going to buy a 15 at great savings last month but crunched some numbers and just went for a 16 M8LTD Green

Saw some 15's on here for $10k yesterday. Pretty hard to beat that value IMO.

Yea, that is good price. but narrow front end $900, secondary clutch $600, primary clutch $700, Track (If opt to change to 3") $2000.00, shocks (IMO make a noticeable difference) $700.00 each. all prices +/- a few depending on dealer but if I bought a 15 id end up doing all that so it was more practical.

Reddeer cycle works is blowing out 15's, outlaw vegreville are also blowing em out. both shops have great service

All the scenarios mentioned have both compromises I like the lasted and greatest but a lot of money-saving does not happen.

All comes down to what you're after. $10k for a very capable modern and brand new backcountry machine or pay the price for the latest and greatest. Personally I'd rock a 2015 with the 2016 front end. 15 clutches were ok, still a lot better than 2012-2013. I like the 2.6" as an all around track, and the stock shocks are still better than the stockers from Poo or Doo.

I agree with you 110%.....buy a 15', change the front end and go.....great savings and still a great sled

yes, agreed. 10g for something you can just load up and go is a pretty good deal. yea the stock shocks are better than the others but only bad thing is they don't last as long and need to be rebuilt sooner. that's what I experienced anyway.

I did a 15 with the 3 inch track upgrade for $1000. The front end does not seem worth it at this point (have ridden a couple 16's) and all clutches wear out so you will replace them or rebuild them all eventually so do the clutch upgrade when the time comes. Even with the track I saved about 4 grand.

providing it doesn't eat up belts @ $300 a belt.
id sooner upgrade front end than go to a 3" track.

Well, I'm thinking about going with the 2016 800 ltd 153. They have great rebates on the 16's, with 3 year warranty. I like the updates on the new cats, front end, clutches, rear skid, hyvo chain, skis, 3" track, evol shocks, etc. Lots of good reports on the 2016 so far.

Should a guy go with a 162, or is the 153 enough track in the mountains? Will the 153 stand on its tail too much on short steep climbs?

Me personally and I have had both, go with the 162 especially if you are over 200lbs. It's is more forgiving in the trees and better in the deep.

have a 13rmk 163 with elka stage 5s turbo 3" track...rode the 16 m8000 with a 162 and think I will be switching brands
