as the title says my truck wont start... i drove over 300km today without hesitation... truck is 3 months old 13200 km... i plugged it in and 45 min later went out to start the truck and the key wont turn. the ignition is locked but the steering wheel turns the tires. I can't engage the gear shifter either... almost feels like i have the wrong key with the exception the wheels turn. Im sure the truck was in park when i turned it off...

its getting towed to garage tonight to warm up and melt... i hope this works! Does anyone think running a tiger torch under neath like an old diesel will help?

thanks

I don't think the steering wheel locks on any newer vehicles, pretty sure that feature was outlawed due to safety concerns.

never heard of the ignition freezing, are all GM keys chipped now? do you have a spare key to try?

yes done... i have an after market viper alarm even tried the stock one... nothing... funny thing i noticed as i wait for the tow truck is that when i press on the brake pedal the brake lights do not come on... im just wondering if some sensor froze if i can't put the brake on will my vehicle start??? its so auto matic im not sure if i do or not

you don't need to press the brake to start, just to shift into gear. funny the brake lights don't come on, they should even if you have the key out. still have interior lights or any other power?

My guess is the dealer wont even touch it until the viper is removed... been down this road will never do an aftermarket remote start/alarm again.

The wife had a torrent and it would lock up dead. There was no power anywhere had it towed 4 times to dealer. Couldnt find anything. Figured out if I boosted and hooked ground to somewhere other than battery it seemed to unlock power problem. Finally got fed up and traded it.

my buddy had an '07 NBS Chevy Silverado 3500, full load with a duramax that did the exact same thing, dead as a doornail. give it a jump with a tiny little booster pack and it would light right up. he had that truck back to slave lake several times and they could not find the problem. had less than 60K on it, he sold it in '09 for 26K to a buddy and it still does it. also know of an '08 Yukon with the same problem. weird

That is weird. Wife was 07 and they said they had a Yukon about the same year doing it as well. Should have the lemon law in force.

thats weird because my 09 suburban did the same thing... only twice but it had dual batteries and it would only work if i jumped the aux battery and like you guys grounded it to somewhere on the vehicle... this is diff b/c i have power except no brake lights and can't turn the key... its like someone switched my keys. When i turn on the light the whole dash lights up except where the gear indicator and odometer is...

Is there a little tab near the gear shifter? if you pop out that little tab with a screwdriver or key there is a little button behind it push it in that will reset the shifter safety switch. A coworkers car did something similar wouldn't shift out of park because the fuse to the taillights was blown so the safety switch will not let it shift because it relies on a signal from the taillights. once that button was pushed you could shift it until it goes back into park then you have to push it gain until you get it fixed

No i got nothing... i put the key in and nothing happened at all ... no beeping lights ect

so i phoned a local garage here in HP (batwings) and he said take it to gm as its probably electrical and didn't know if he could fix it and saved me two tow bill but he said hit the key with a small hammer lightly like it was a nail.... i did and it sounded like shattering glass... truck starts beeping and key then turns... fired right up

took it to gm anyways and they said its been happening... ignition was frooze solid and was replaced under warrenty... i bought a $4 bottle of their ignition de icer... so if this ever happens to you guys out there try taping your key... thank god i was in town and not out on some service road...i did everything but never thought that... i turned that key (tried to) so hard i bent it... (yes i was a little frustrated) mind you at -46 with wind yesterday wasn't a bad day to miss work...

thanks everyone for you help...

Glad you got it going.I'm confused as to where all of that moisture came from?
Possibly dropped the key's in the snow and stuck them in the ignition with a little
snow still on the key?

funny you say that... but i have a small heater from Canadian tire in my truck... works great and runs when i plug my truck in...mounted right under the radio... i have rubber floors... wonder if with all the wet boots and stuff that is just enough heat to create moisture?
