hey guys, looking to rebuild my rev engine concidering it hit 4100 km/s this season. was told that removing the engine was the easiest. looking for a secong opinion on removal and if there is an easier way. i wanted to rebuild myself but with the lack of time i was thinking of taking it somewhere. any suggestions on anything would be awesome like type of pistons i should use or anything. havnt ever taken the engine from the rev so it will be done for the first time any pointers would be greatly appriciated, thx

I'm about to embark on the same mission .. I know how to turn a wrench but never taken apart my rev so I can't help you there..but, I'm about to order the dual ring piston / rebuild kit from rk tek. I hear that's the way to go, and if you have extra cash to buy their head, it will get you more ponies and run cooler too

I had the RK Tek head and dual rings on my '04. Switching back and forth the stock head and head with Kelseys domes, I couldn't really see much difference. Atleast not as much as I thought I would. It's deffinetly a quality built kit. Really though, drop in a set of dual rings and have your head milled down by a reputable shop for much less.

If you are just doing the piston/rings, you can leave the motor in. Its a little tough and a second set of hands for dropping the jugs on is nice. Make sure there is no scoring on the jugs. You might be in need of a re-nick if they are bad.

Pulling the motor isn't bad though. Tie a knot close to the recoil, so when you untie the pull handle it doesn't pull in. Take photos of things before you take them apart. Make sure to pick up some new coolant. Label things like the hoses that go to the DPM, oil lines and such. Pull the primary off before hand, makes sliding the motor out easier. Sometimes easier to remove y-pipe as well. Hooking up the wiring is usually straight forward, the connections are fairly obvious. Its a bit of trouble sometimes to get the oil pump cable undone.

Be sure and check the crank run out. The HO's aren't as bad as the 800R motors, but they do still wear. If your crank run out is max you might as well spring for a new short block to make life easier. Not sure if you have put some time into your clutches, likely new rollers, check the wear on the ramps, check the bushings, pick up a set of o-rings and check the buttons for any edges. Check your chain case and chain.

Best thing to do is download a copy of the shop manual so you know which order things come apart and go back together. Also gives you all the torque specs.

thanks dude, i am going to need to do the clutches im thinking they havnt been done in awhile. not having to pull the engine might be a great advantage. im also going to have a look at reeds and all that aswell. never tore open one of these sleds before so im going to be extra careful with it. thx again

Powderchowder also helped me with my rev. I had the RK set up i didn't notice a huge difference but i didn't have the computer re-flash from RK and i had to mix a bit of race gas with prem. If i were to do it again i would just run the RK dual ring pistons and the stock head to avoid having to use race gas. While your at it, put in a set of v-force reeds they really woke my sled up.

With just over 2500 miles on your motor I wouldn't bother rebuilding it unless you are just using the mileage as an excuse to get money from your CFO. just sold mine with around 6500 km on it and it hasn't missed a beat. My buddy sold his 04 last year with over 7500km on it....
