Whats better for a trail machine with mountain capabilities?

will I struggle in the mountains with a 136' track?

I had a 600 crossfire with a 136" and 2" paddle it got in all the areas my buddies got into just don't expect it to high mark like the long tracks. It would've done better if it had a few more ponies.

144" is becoming a standard for even trail machines these days (with smaller lugs). Not that many years ago a 136" x 1.5" track was considered a "mountain track" but by today's standards it's not.
I've seen lots of guys in the mountains with 136 x 2" tracks doing just fine, but as Fallen said, you won't be high marking the longer tracks.

Either track will work, longer get you up on the snow more but may be harder to handle on trails.

Both will work OK, just depends where most of your riding will be. You probably wont notice much of a difference trail riding, but in the deep you will. What you have for power will also make a difference. Use to have a 99 600RMK 136X1.75 and stretched it to a 151X2. Didnt notice a lot of change on the trail, but an incredible change in the deep snow:d I ride a 146 track for both areas, works great for where I need to go and will still get me to where i dont want to be

i say go 144 i had 800 144 worked just fine on trails. hell i got 156 2.5 paddle now and love ditch banging with it.

ive got an 800 edge with a 121 on it and do just fine just no high marking but for the most part i go where i want to
