Just joined today after reading about cats bogging and not revving out at lower elevations. I just encountered similar happenings this past weekend, Talked to my dealer and they said not to run premium, and, it could be the stinger. What happened was, i was in Fernie BC and sled has always run premo shell. Always ran good but not this past weekend at what seemed to be at the lower elevations. Changed the plugs and went up the hill,... boom she was perfect. Back on the trail it was ch!t until we hit another slope then she was good for the rest of the day. Second day same thing, same spots and then she cleared coming out of a glade after pulling hard for about 25 seconds. After that again, perfect all day. WTF

I have an 09 that used to do that. You would go slow for a bit then when you lean into it you had to blip the throttle a couple of times then it would clear up and go.I put a pipe and some other crap on it with a Power Commander fuel controller and it hasn't done it since. But I had mine back at the dealer when it was stock and he said the same about the fuel.I had a mbrp can on it from new and we even tried the stock can and it would still do it!It just seemed to over fuel when you were just puttin' along. He talked me into all the mods and I still run regular gas in it but I think from factory they are fat in low to mid range.Maybe try a fuel controller and lean it out in a couple of spots.

Stock M1000 requires 87 octane not 91. This might make it run poorly at time. It also could be a litle rich and loading up. Exhaust valves could also be getting a little dirty/sticky. D &D y-pipe might clean it up a bit

Yah this thing has had a mbrp on since new and its never done this before.. It has about 2500 k on it. Everything is stock other than the can. I did have a slow ride down in revy the ride before. 15 km at least of 10km/hr. i think she got carboned up. Thats what i thought at first any way. But new plugs started to run shitty after a bit to. The new plugs had never been used but they had been sitting in the holders and the caps started surface rusting. Nothing major but I'm just trying to eliminate something, yah know. I was also wondering if the power valves gummed up. I just don't know why it hasn't happened before.

I'll try the fuel first, going back to 87 and see what happens. Just like to know what changed and i dont wanna chase my tail adding on after market parts and find out it was something else. Wish we had some snow locally to be able to try it out.

Could someone explain to me why a lower octain in a 2 stroke would make an engine run better? Just curious!

Premium has no ethanol, or oxygenation agents in it . So the sled will in essence run leaner on regular . Is what i understand BUT,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I run premium and some Klotz always. Ran 87 once and my sled ran like crap Dunno why !!! CHeck and clean your APV,s really good i would say. At higher alts i could see the 87 working better due to the ethanol or oxygenated additives. I tend to ride under 6000 feet, but i find my sled rich below 3000 .
PS. Remember it is US 87 fuel too so in fact way lower octane than our 87. My bet is the additives to the lower grades lean it out. MAke sure you get fuel from a reputibale supplier too. Seen some cheap carp out there .

Octane has nothing to do with how rich or lean your sled runs. On the m1000 the engine was designed to run 87. any higher than that is a waste of money and can make your sled run poorly. If you sled is running too rich or lean you need to run a fuel controller to clean it up. I would always try to stay away from ethanol base fuel. Not all gas stations carry it so check around.
