06 Summit Beeping

Has anyone had the issue of beeping during running? My Summit started this today. It will be running and suddenly starts beeping , 2 short beeps and then after a few secconds 2 more beeps. I did notice that it does it more when letting off the throttle and at low idle the engine light was on. It is almost like when your DESS is not connecting so I took it off and cleaned it but it still kept beeping. It is strange because after a while it stopped for an hour but stared again after it was shut off. There is no noticable issue with the performance or running of the engine. Could it be a loose connection or water in electrical connectors? We were pounding alot of drifts and deep snow yesterday.:(

if it keeps "beeping" the same way, it's flashing you a code. Try and watch for a pattern if it keeps up.Can only be cleared by a dealer, so i've been told.

check the main cable connector going into the computer, there have been corrosion issues with it if it isn't treated with dialectric grease.....best bet is to get a dealer to hook up a code reader to it.

Mine does this when I get major temp changes. Usually when powder enters the motor cavity and cools something off quickly.

Like everyone else said. Look for a pattern and call it in.

If you're running UNDER 91Octane fuel, the sdi knock sensor might be kicking in under heavier engine load, and the beeping is letting you know that it's gone into save-me mode. When you shut-down & re-start, the "brain" thinks that you've spent the extra 3$ and filled up with good gas again, until it kicks off again. It could be other things also, that a good dealer can help with.

Mine's doing it at an idle, haven't figured out a pattern though.

Thank you all for your info! I had it out yesterday and found it starts to beep after getting some snow under the hood and well warmed up. I will check the connectors under the hood and re pack with dielectric grease. If that doesn't do the trick it will go into the dealer. By the way, who is the best for service in Edmonton?:d

First check all the connectors. Make sure there are good connections.

Sorry i can't help you with dealers.

Don't waste your time with the Edmonton dealers take it out to Wetaskawin ask for Larry good guys to deal with and great Service and fast turn around!!

I have had a few do the beeping while driving. Check the TPS wiring harness for rubing out on the frame.

What it sounds like is a error occurred and it "wrote" a code into your computer and depending on the code it can reduce your engine power to protect your engine. You just need to take it too a dealer to see what code it is and most of the time you can just clear the code and everything will be fine again.

Get this,
Went for a ride yesterday after spending Friday night in the garage checking for all the simple stuff, changed plugs looked for loose wires ect. Nothing stood out as the issue so loaded up for a ride Saturday. Everything was great the whole day until just before we were ready to head back and had been tearing up an open field it started beeping again and Eng light flashing. I thought today would be the same thing over again and start looking for a service shop. When I went to unload from my truck as soon as I started up it started beeping. The strange part is when I started rocking it to get the track loosend up it stopped. I unloaded and got it into the garage and the track up on the stand, when it is running at idle I can stand on the right board and it stops but when I jump over to the left side it starts beeping, the idle increases about 150 rpm and the Eng light comes on it also starts running rough. I kept jumping from one side to the other and it was like turning a switch on and off. I'm starting to think this is why the guy that sold it to me in September wanted less than he could have got for it and it has likely been doing this for a while as this sled is completly stock.:(

Good for you! What you have done is identify what it takes to trigger the fault.
Tech. Mitchel at Power Merchants in St. Paul is the best electrical diagnostic guy I know. With what you've found and working with his skills, I'm confident you can cure this gremlin for a moderate tech-time cost. Call him, or any shop with a highly trained e-tech and get it permanently squared away. If it stops "triggering" like that again, It'll get real hard to find. I'm guessing it's in a conncection or in the harness itself.

Sounds like a pinched wire. Are there aftermarket handlebar risers on it?

No,
I have the service manual and original owners manual and from what I can tell it is all original except for a Speedworks pipe and roller clutch, This I know because he gave me the original BRP clutch and pipe when I bought it. Nothing else looks messed with or modified. Does not have a riser on the bars.

I did pull off and repack the main harness on the ECM with dielectric grease but this didn't do the trick. I will now have to phone around and ask the service techs if they know of this issue before deciding who to take it to. I have heard good things about Power Merchants so I will call them also. Thank you.
