The initial problem was the FICM programming, which, if the truck has visited a ford dealer since it was made, would be rectified by now...I'd get the latest re-flash if I were you.

The next problem was the loose nut behind the wheel. Toss a programmer in, and bag the snot out of the truck...
EGR's would fail, and people would keep driving them...The head gaskets would have been damaged during this, but, being cheap, the owners don't change them...The truck runs fine around town, until you pull a load, and lose all your coolant out the degas bottle, then cry that the head gasket failed pulling a small holiday trailer..
During the EGR failure, the oil cooler was probably coked up with oil being burnt at extreme temps. The HEUI injectors hate any debris...And fail.
Which is the next point -
Oil. Guys dump in bulk oil, and feel they can run the truck 12,000kms...AND let it idle all day. Put in 0-40 Synthetic, and change your oil religiously. 10,000kms highway, less if you idle it a lot. Don't run ch!t fuel, and change your fuel filter, and water separator.
They don't, then cry that the truck kills injectors.
If you're going to be turning the truck up, LOSE THE EGR COOLER. Either pull it out and blind it off, and re-install, or buy a delete kit...
This motor ran for years in School busses, and was pretty solid...
Then the oilpatch gets ahold of them, and there's 100x more fleet 6.0L running around the patch than anything else..guys don't own a bolt in them, destroy them, then whine about them....Get a clue. I bagged the snot outta a duramax work truck, and it lost a transmission at 90,000kms, wouldn't rev up if it was -30 (GM 'fixed' it with a winter front!?),constant check engines, limp modes, egr plugging, and was on it's last legs by 200,000. Anything will fail if abused.

People who cry about the 6.0L, are mis-informed, and listen to the hype, or were the type to break something, then drive it to the shop, and cry about the repair bill...

High pressure fuel pump? or Oil Pump? Cuz the last weakness with the 6.0LPSD is the HPOP. They seem to die at around 200,000kms. and it's a $700 part, plus install...(Pull the turbo, and egr, I think the stand pipes to the oil rails gotta come out....)
