Out from Etherington and around trails on the north end of the system is very thin and whooped up bad. Out of Cataract is smooth for a bit, then a little rough and thin, then you get to the “southern trails” - south of Cataract Creek - plenty of snow and still sounds fairly nice/not whooped up.
We are doing some snowmobile groomer training this weekend/Sunday. The trails will not be done in whole, but we will increase our grooming volunteers to be able to do more frequent grooming. Our focus of the training will be the main trails out of Etherington.
To all, Cataract is primarily a trails system, unless you “know where to go”. There are a few off-trail places close to the trails themselves, but they get tracked up fast. Cataract is no BC Powder, do not have visions of that. All that said, groomer operator said he has never before seen the...
I hope someone gets back to this thread before Monday night, as I will have an update by then from club m meets riding there today and tomorrow.
to this point, I know the road in - Hwy 940 - is cleared all the way to Cataract Creek staging parking lot at kms 12,, 6 kms past Etherington, but the...
Thanks for the update! We are looking at going out Saturday with the club snowmobile with its' roller or drag on behind. It is not the "big girl", but we can get the snowmobile out of the shop at Cataract and onto the trail for sure to at least do something. If it is felt there is little to...
As stated, the snow is not great at the staging areas and out onto the trails, currently. This is like any other "low snow" start to the year we see at Cataract more often than we would like to see. If you have to get out now, go and fill your boots, but know that there is not quality snow...
The diesel has been delivered for the season, and the snow report is “not enough to groom yet”. The trails are not open until Dec. 1, and we hope to have enough snow to get on the trails and do an initial packing of the snow with our roller-packer at least, if we can not get out with the...
Thread is about Mountain Riding in Alberta, so why talk/compare to BC? No added value to the purpose of the thread, or you just get off flipping yours on the table?
I have my Calgary Snowmobile Club membership........kinda have to being the club's Trails Director for Cataract Creek Snowmobile Trails.

Hi all, Calgary Snowmobile Club’s Trails Director for Cataract Creek Snowmobile Trails here, Scott. I wanted all to know that club volunteers have spent 4 weekends between the end of August, through Halloween doing maintenance on the trails and equipment we groom with.
We have cleared all...
Undoubtedly an after-market replacement bumper, not OEM. This is a common issue on alignment and gapping. I used to work in an OEM remanufacturing shop, and why shops liked our bumpers - perfect fit as compared to AM bumpers.
A big THANK YOU to club member & groomer operator Darryl Lennox (The Accessories Shop, High River) and his two club member cohorts/trail maintenance-tree clearing sledders - Darrell Belanger (D&S Auto, High River) and Kevin Thurber (Rafter T Trucking, Vulcan) - for putting in the time (20+ hours...
Winter isn’t over yet. Report from our groomer operator yesterday that there is finally enough snow at Cataract to move our groomer all the way from the maintenance yard out onto the trails, to take care of some trail safety issues, as soon as the AB government departments all provide their...
