go for a summit 146 or 154. You live out west, the mountians, once you ride there and get the hang of it, will be the only place you ride. If you buy a renegade you will only be able to scatch the surface of the riding area's, with a summit, only your ability and the size of your cajones will...

sounds like a wiring issue, does he have a heated bag or any electric ascessoires installed ?, and did he have is wiring harness recall done, also check the brake light wire to the rear, could be anything....what rpms is he hitting when its sputtering ?
