Baril Creek is both, it follows the valley bottom and climbs to the top of a ridge and over the pass into BC. Avalanche gear should be worn if you take the trail to BC as multiple people have been buried playing on a few different slopes on the BC side. The trail itself also crosses a slide path...
we've used dynamic climbing rope with carabiners on the ends for years. pulled out multiple sleds, works awesome, carbiners clip right over the a-arms make it easy and safe to hook up also. would never use anything else.
because of the stretch we've also hooked it between two sleds and pulled...
Looks like Bev is gonna teach me a lesson on my next ride with you guys!! She is doing awesome!! Gonna try for a ride next weekend with Johni_t, i'll let you know if we are headed your direction!!
haha, i saw that coming as soon as he turned towards it!! be familiar with your surroundings!
looks like our tracks from last friday were still there.... maybe with the snow yesterday they finally got covered up??
We went over the pass on Friday March 21st. The trail getting there is whooped out like crazy, maybe not as bad as i have seen it other years, but pretty bad. All 4 creek crossings were passable with no effort, and the couple climbs were in pretty good shape too. The snow on the BC side wasn't...
We all appreciate the update on how unsafe the conditions are, but the reports from the South Rockies Avalanche Team are way more informative and they don't break any rules making them. It seems like more time was put into the making of the video than was spent on reading the avy reports before...
The face these guys were on the very top of the pass, and yes it is on the right as you cross the pass. The area that is allowed for sleds is after you go down the other side, so yes you are correct again.
There is a sign at the staging area clearly showing what areas are out of bounds. The same map has been posted on the 'SW Alberta' forum many times. There is even a thread titled 'Fording Pass Out of Bounds Area' that graphically shows what is and is not out of bounds in the 'SW Alberta'...
Here is my comment.... you guys are idiots. Not only is that an OUT OF BOUNDS AREA, but the AVY CONDITIONS were rated HIGH all weekend. New snowfall, warm temps, super sun exposed terrain, on a wind loaded hill that slides multiple times a year, do I need to continue to make you realize what a...
just remember that is on a great bluebird day after getting over the whopped out trail, crossing all the creeks and the shale and the frozen tundra on the pass.... it isn't all that nice!!!!!!!!!!
Wow, really??? That's quite the dick move for someone to be out there shooting up a trailer! I've been to the Etherington staging area a few times so far and everything has been quiet, but I haven't gone all the way down to Cataract. Glad you got the trailer out before more damage could be done...
The people who know the area try to educate the others who don't know what is in and out of bounds. There is a sign (maybe even 2) along the trail that does clearly outline the boundary of Don Getty Wilderness Provincial Park as you enter it, that is the section we must all stick to the trail...
Can anybody help with where I can get a replacement light for the back end on my STF deck? I got the deck used about 5yrs ago, so I believe the deck to be around 8yrs old.
