Yes, you are absolutly correct about these bags -theoretically they should decrease the averall density of the body that gives more chances to stay on top of the snow flow. I just wanted to say - when snow flow is going down, its not a simple laminar flow so, light objects do not nessesary stay...
If somebody thinks that one's can grab that equipment and be safe in avalanche areas - he is completely wrong. With that equipment he will only loose mobility to escape- there are just seconds to run away. Companies are making money, selling that useless crap, they care the only about profit not...
I won't buy that equipment because these people against sledding. Personally, I think that balloon looks kinda cool but useless in real scenario when avalanche happens. I am a researcher who works with glaciers and avalaches, so, I did dig personally 3 bodies out of avalances working together...
Keep stock, and you going to be happy.
I talked to a Doo dealer he said that can made heavy for a reason, its counter-balancing clutch located on another side. By changing CAN to a ligher one you make your sled out of balance.
Not 100 percent sure, but would like to be wrong, any thoughts?
Both sleds fun to ride, I agree with someone saying that Doo go better uphill, I would say because of wider track.
Skidoo also looks more expensive, every detail of it build with a better quality, Polaris has gaps so, it gives cheaper look. But when you ride PRO on a really deep snow it shines...
I have both xm and pro.
Pro is better for me, wife loves XM.
I think PRO gives more muscular kinda aggressive ride, XM better for females. Smooth, more easy to steer, and looks kinda POSH to me, lol
Sometimes, its opposite.
I was looking for a sled and found 3 different sleds to choose from.
One sled was in Red Deer, second on Silvian lake, last in Edmonton.
I did text them and decided to spent the whole Sunday looking at all of them.
However, that guy from Edmonton was really nasty...
Here some links about their Expedition.

One question guys.
Please help me to solve that dilemma.
Guys want to rent sleds, but they are willing to drive about 17000km, huh I doubt if any modern sled can sirvive 17 000, and I am not sure if any companies in Canada are willing to rent them sleds, knowing they want to drive 17k.
Perhaps...
Yes, they do.
They are planning to buy brand new sleds here and try crossing the whole continent from coast to coast. Just wanted to help him, to find out if any such trails already exist, or they have to make their own route. Perhaps, hi resolution google maps will help.
The second lag of this trip was from Chukotka to Kamchatka, terrain was different and they choose modern machines -Yamaha.
They said using Buran (russian snowmobile) or Yamaha doesn't make much difference because they were towing around 600kg each.
Yamaha more reliable unless temperature drops...
