I was across to Tom Hill road from Whitecourt yesterday. Packing trail and filling in creeks. Snow in cut blocks is very skinny! Not enough to groom yet. It does get a bit better closer to Tom Hill but snow is much better closer to Whitecourt.
It takes a lot of power and a lot of traction to cut out deep moguls and go up steep hills. We try and groom our well used trails once per week and even that can be hard on some of us old boys! Younger working people do not have the time.
An annual trail pass in Alberta pays for grooming about 3 K.M of trail ONCE. Grooming is a very big cost with out adding in all the additional costs of maintaining a large sled trail system with a number of cabins. Luckily most riders do appreciate all the efforts that go into trail systems.
Neither. I just don't take the drag down it. The Cat alone climbs it easily. The trail ends at the river for heavy traffic anyway about a mile up. Another groomer grooms from the north on the other side. River is not safe for sleds yet.
I had come down and was going back up in the picture.
Our costs for grooming are about $15.00 per k.m. I am sure in B.C. with steeper grades, more snow, and fuel that is taxed more the costs would be higher. $25.00 per day is cheap!
Was good to see you two out yesterday. You can go right to the river now. There were sled tracks on the Oldman. Quite a difference in snow as you go north!
No snow in the past week but there is enough for a ride. Our new (newer) groomer just arrived today so grooming north of the river should start tomorrow.
