Thanks Wemac good info; now I know why that AK-47 that I had years back had trouble cycling. The gun was chambered for NATO 5.56 and I was buying bulk .223 rounds. The gun was supposedly chambered that size so that NATO enemies could use the same ammo if they found or stole it in the field.

Thanks to everyone for their input. Yes I have been stocking up on .22LR and was checking the availability of 45/70 and it's really hard to find. Lots of choices to make and in the end I think I'm going to have either pay someone to re-load for me or start a new hobby...
