E=kfrey;2346106] I'm confirming what was said above for the Revy area. There is 130 to 150cm of snow over the Nov. crust with mostly facets above that and a surface hoar layer on top. Now...
Well we will have at least two persistent weak layers in the snowpack that should cause some concern for the foreseeable future. The Nov crust and the most recent, facet/surfacehoar combo. The trouble with persistent problems in the snowpack is they can go to sleep for a while and wake up when...
Thanks for the heads up about the recent activity.
But just a note of caution. When the new snow "warms up" or has a bit of time on the ground, it will likely consolidate into a slab. Without being there, I would imagine the new snow does not have enough cohesion to produce large propagation...
Hey all,
With the drought that we have seen in many areas of BC over the past while, this new snow is falling on one hell of a **** sandwhich. The avalanche hazard will be very real over the foreseeable future and I am asking that you all use caution and ask anyone you know heading to the...
The pilots are no longer using the small jet rangers and are using bigger choppers so the hourly rate is now closer to $2200. The sleds, especially a frozen up 174 full of fuel, are close to maxing out the little choppers and really, they want to help, but they do not want to risk their lives...
Lots of hoars around these parts....the winds kept them a lot smaller that I had expected to find. It will also be variable...gonna be a tricky one to figure out once its buried. Test before committing to something of high consequence that for sure.

Took the family up Clemina today for some trail recon. Almost worse than expected. Unloaded at 13.5km (morning glory) 20cm total at the cabin...not good
AvCan’s Executive Director Gilles Valade is involved in a fundraising activity for the Avalanche Canada Foundation this Saturday in Vancouver, and he’s going to give all the money he raises to the Al Hodgson Fund.
For those who may not know Al Hodgson donated much of his adult life to...
One thing that keeps getting confused in this scenario is MEMBERSHIP vs SEASONS PASS
I truly wish these were kept more separate.
BCSF needs rider MEMBERS...not season pass holders.
Members provide revenue to the BCSF but equally important are the statistics. BCSF would have much more power...
Thanks guys, this is a big topic and I have not participated in full as the group that I represent has not developed a formal opinion on the matter yet, as we are allowing the BCSF to continue working through the draft.
There are a very many things at play here although the key point ( that I...
One of my friends has passed me on some great information regarding his regular work benefit package.
His regular benefit package is looking at avalanche training AND equipment the same way others use their benefit to cover things like gym memberships, running shoes and other training allowed...
Backcountry Access is doing a blog campaign called #unepicadventures.
Not every day goes according to plan and these blogs are great ways to remind us that we need to be open to switching to "plan B" when conditions and circumstances are telling us to hold back. The adventure will be just an...
Sorry for the delay. Typically we do private courses. Our winter is booking very quickly. If you were able to get a 4 or 5 friends together, we would be happy to put on an ast 2 for you or if others chime in, we would be able to arrange one for sure as long as we can work out a schedule that...
