In a case like that I would be checking the cdi connection. Make sure you didnt get any moisture in the connection. Clean and dry any connectors and make sure non are disconnected. good luck

Yes it will work, I have a 2000xc/sp 600 and I put a 03 perk kit in it but you may have to relocate the cdi from the oil tank to the top of your air box. Also, the plug for the cdi will be different and you will have to change that also by removing the pins and reinstaling them in the other...
