I rented a 2012 M 800 and blew two belts in three days and only put on around 80 to 110 km a day. The snow was wet and I am kind of fat so it had to work hard in two or three feet of fresh snow I got it stuck lots. The belts blew up and bent the ch!t out of the guard and side panel I would like to get one of the 2013 but have read lots of problems about belts blowing up on 2012 have they fix or have a recall this one was so called fixed there was two other crossfires riding with me all for the last two years with no belt problems hard to upgrade at $160 belt every time I go out. my nytro has over 3000 km on it so if you have a new cat let me know if your happy with yours.

friend rented the same cat as you. same deal. blew belts all weekend and DESTROYED all the plastics and belt guard on that side. not pretty

if they can get that figured out its the only real issue left with the new 800 cats and the 2.6 inch track for 13 looks promising

makes me wonder if they had the panel closed up correctly! two of my buddies rented m8's this year and when we picked them up the rental company didnt have either panel installed correctly. To the normal persons eye they look proper but I own one and the first couple times i put the panel back on i did it incorrect as well, but once you learn they work great! no belt issues in over 1000 miles for me

Thanks a lot bopper! Maybe you should go post on the snowest thread about belt issues with 8 million views and say "you idiots don't know how to close the side panel, done deal". Always the guy from manitoba or minnesota chiming in about the real issues in the mountains huh?

There's an update in the chain case to fix this issue. I had 1100km on my original an got too worn and couldn't adjust the deflection anymore, then frayed 2 new ones. I think it's poor quality belts IMO( had a shortage for a bit, then likey rushed them to get them shipped)

For it to only happen with 2 new ones from my original is kind of odd. There's also an updated belt now.
