County of Strathcona Trail Strategy Vested Stakeholders Group Survey.

November 15, 2010

Well after 4 years of meeting and presentation to the County of Strathcona there will finally be a County of Strathcona Trail STUDY

There are actually 2 studies going at the same time
1 - County of Strathcona Trail Strategy Vested Stakeholders Group Survey.

2 - Beaver Hills Initive Study - BHI See link to BHI thread

These studies have both already gone to Consulting firms and we did receive a study package for review and comments. We have been invited to sit in as an ORGANIZED sports group for consultation process on both studies.

The first rounds of discussion started in November and will run though to the spring of 2011.

On that note this is a very structured process and I will try to keep everyone in the loop and up to speed. I will post what I have received but the first meetings are closed door for only the selected ORGANIZED sports have been invited for input. Meeting times and locations will be given out when the consultants ask for general public input - Possibly Early December

This Thread is dedicated to only the County of Strathcona Trail Strategy Vested Stakeholders Group Survey

INPUT #1 - November 18, 2010 -
Letter from the Consultants, invite to participate in the study

Hello,

Strathcona County is developing a Trails Strategy that will address the planning (and maintenance) of the County's trail system. Included in this planning are both urban and rural pathways as well as the variety of non mechanized and mechanized uses of the trail system.

To appropriately develop the Trails Strategy it is important to consult with groups and organizations that utilize the trail system. You have received this email because our records show you are a representative for an organization that may have some interest in Strathcona County's trail system. There are two means for your organization to provide input; these are outlined below. Please note that you are welcome to participate in both consultation activities should you choose.

Survey
Please find attached a questionnaire to gather the perspective of your organization. Please complete the questionnaire and return it via email (return it to me), fax or mail (see address below). Alternatively you can access the questionnaire online by clicking on the following link:

(Link Removed)

We would like to collect your response by December 1st, 2010; hopefully you can accommodate this timing.

Discussion Group
In addition we will be convening a discussion group to gather input from group representatives. This session will be held on the evening of ### . Because space is limited in this session, you are asked to RSVP to ### with your interest. Further details will be provided upon registration.

If you have any questions about this study please contact ### during normal business hours.

Trails are one of the most heavily used recreation amenities in Strathcona County. As well, trails often top the list when residents are asked to identify areas for further outdoor recreation development. The trail system contributes greatly to healthy, active living and social connection in our community.

The Trails Strategy will:

address needs for all types of users across both urban and rural areas
assess a range of trail uses: walk, jog, bicycle, cross-country ski, off-highway vehicle use (ATV, snowmobile), equine and others
provide guidelines on how best to manage trail user conflicts
identify new and emerging trends in trail development and activities
set priorities for trail enhancements
examine trail links to parks, natural areas and facilities, as well as look at stronger trail connections to commercial and institutional areas
The strategy will establish a long-term vision and direction to build upon a safe, accessible and innovative trail system for both rural and urban areas in Strathcona County.

Input from trail users, stakeholder groups and the general public is important to the strategy's development. Here's the outline of opportunities for community input.
