Was thinking, anyone ever seen an enclosed sled deck?

Would like a cover something like this one that fit on my sled deck...

We have a 3 place sled trailer and commonly haul 2 more sleds on the open deck, in certain weather they get plastered with crap...

Also would haul our fancy horse drawn sleigh on the deck, but would want it covered....would save us taking two trucks, one to haul horses and one to haul the sleigh.

Years ago there was a guy we use to see that had almost exactly this setup. I don't recall ever watching him load. It would be best suited to a hydraulic setup I think or need to open more than on a trailer so you don't clothes-hang yourself loading. Sleds are so long now it would really hang off the back and interfere with an enclosed trailer. If made available guys would be running them on their short boxes no doubt.

Hell of an idea.

Even a nice deflector off the front to keep the road grime off the sleds.. Covers help but only stop so much..

Seen one in blue couple weekends ago, it didn't look fun to get into to fill up sleds. I'm sure it be a huge sail on the highway as well. And looks like a space station too boot! The two place enclosed in your first picture in my opinion is a better alternative.

In my 45 years in this silly sport I have seen 2 that looked like a workable solution. Both were 3/4 4X4 extended cab trucks, box gone, frame extended about 3 feet. One had what looked like the enclosure from the 2 place tilt trailer that you can still buy, the other was full on custom made out of fiberglass on a steel tube frame. Always wanted to build one but never got around to it. Common. Both were seen in the US, one at Yellowstone and the other somewhere in Idaho, don't remember. There probably is regulations against something about a setup like this but damn would it be the cat's rear for early and late season trips where the enclosed is just not an option.

I tried to get something made a couple years ago but no success. There was a company that made polyethylene hard covers for sleds. They came in 2 halves, front and back. Unfortunately each section was only 5 ft long so they would not cover a mountain sled, I tried to get longer ones made. They were individual hard side shells that fit over the sled. If hinged in the middle the back could swing up and be set upside down on the front section. These shells could be placed over pins sticking up through the deck. The only uncovered part would be the bottom of the track if it stuck off the end of the deck.

Something like this

These are all great ideas, but for something that "looks" nice, fitted properly, and functional....Who'd be willing to pay the type of money that one would logically charge...? There will always be someone that might, but the vast majority of people would\could not afford this type of investment\idea. The production industry likes to make money...not one off's...

If you go this route look at how a curtainsider on a flatdeck 48' or 53' is built. Could build itsomewhat low profile as you could slide it out of the way to load or unload.

Other challenge is doing this with a deck with extendable sides

Interesting idea - A fiberglass cap that's fit to your sled is an interesting idea.
I'd think that the big single box would only be OK if you're starting with a flat deck & it sits down lower.

another one for the to-do some day list

For teh price of a deck/trailer and then the price of some sort of cover im seeing suggested you would be better off to sell it all and buy a box truck at auction
